Objective

Purpose
This course is an important part of basic nursing and midwifery education. As a participant, you will learn about the structure and function of the human body's organ systems.
After completing this course, you will understand the structural and functional principles of a healthy human body and have access to the tools you need to apply in applied professional courses and in working life.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course:
You will master key terminology and concepts related to anatomy and physiology. You will be able to describe the structural and functional principles of the human body's organ systems. You understand the importance of the most important organs (brain, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys) for the normal functioning of the body.

Content

Cell and Tissue Science; Cell Structure, Tissue and Organ Structure.
Musculoskeletal system; the main features of bone and muscle tissue, the large bones of the body and the various joints, the superficial muscles of the body and their effect on the function of the various joints.
Blood and blood circulation, blood composition and function of the circulatory system. The central structures of the heart and the functioning of the heart. Key differences between veins and arteries, major blood vessels in the body, blood clotting process, and anatomic-physiological criteria for measuring ECG and blood pressure.
Lymphatic l. Lymphatic system: Basic principles of the body's defense systems and the body's fluid circulation.
Respiratory; respiratory tract, lungs, and respiratory unit. Respiratory mechanics, pulmonary ventilation and respiratory gas exchange. Basics of respiratory control and respiratory volumes.
Digestion; structure of the digestive system and glands that produce digestive fluids and enzymes. Nutrient digestion, absorption, storage and defecation.
Structure and function of the kidneys and urinary tract. The role of the kidneys in the fluid, mineral and waste fluid balance of the body.
Endocrine, endocrine and lymphatic system: Hormone-producing glands, their secreted hormones and their effect on the body.
Nervous system: Structure and function of the central and peripheral nervous system. Structure and function of the autonomic nervous system. The generation, conduction and transmission of a nerve impulse along a nerve pathway. Functional areas of the brain and motor and sensory nerve pathways; sensory sensation and pain.
Senses: Visual play; eye structure and function, hearing and balance; ear structure and function and sense of smell; structure and function of the nasal cavity.
