Objective

Knowledge of welding technology creates the ability to work in the tasks related to the design, control, management and development of a welding workshop. You will learn about welding technology and form an overall picture of the things to be managed in a welding workshop.

You will learn to outline the possibilities and restrictions of welding processes and the ways in which welding work is mechanized and automated. You will also learn to take into account the material and technical aspects of the products to be welded. In addition, you will learn how to make cost calculations and take into account the basics of quality management in welding works.

After completing the course, you will be able to instruct in normal welding work. You know how to choose appropriate equipment, tools and methods for the production of welded structures.

Knowledge and understanding:
You have the knowledge and understanding of the technological entity of welding; materials, equipment, tools and processes and their limitations. In addition, you understand digitalization as part of welding development and the importance of welding technology as part of sustainable manufacturing technologies.

Engineering practice:
You will be able to develop and design welding production processes and systems, which may include technical, economic and safety constraints. You have the ability to identify and solve welding problems by choosing appropriate, well-established, analytical and computational methods. You know how to apply technical standards and established guidelines in the planning of welding work.

Investigations and information retrieval.
You can do literature searches and critically utilize and use scientific databases and other suitable sources of information to search for information.

Content

Welding processes and methods, weldability of materials, mechanization and automation of welding, welding costs, quality system of welding.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

The overall assessment consists of 50% of the exam and 50% of the learning assignments.
The examinations are held three times in accordance with the degree rules.

Adequate (1): You will recognize the terminology related to welding technology and the different functions of the welding machine, but you will only be able to adequately apply them in simple selection and design tasks related to learning assignments.

Satisfactory (2): You recognize the terminology related to welding technology. You know the basics of welding processes and equipment as well as the other functions of a welding machine, but you can only apply them satisfactorily in design and development tasks related to learning assignments.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

Good (3): You master the main things of the course:
- you are familiar with welding processes, equipment and their field of application
- you understand the factors that affect the weldability of materials and know how to draw up welding plans
- you know the means of mechanization and automation
- you can make cost calculations for welded products
- you know the basics of welding quality management.

Very good (4): You know the welding processes, the factors that affect the weldability of materials, you know the means of automating welding work, the principles of welding cost calculation and the basics of welding quality management. In addition, you will be able to apply what you have learned critically and innovatively in tasks related to the design and development of welding work.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You know the welding processes, the factors that affect the weldability of materials, you know the means of automation of welding work, the principles of welding cost calculation and the basics of welding quality management. In addition, you will be able to apply what you have learned critically and innovatively in tasks related to the design and development of welding work. You also have a very detailed knowledge of welding technology, in addition to which you can also make synergies between issues.
