    Purpose
    This course introduces you to cultural effects on individuals, families and communities in every-day life and health care, as well as environmental risks for health and well-being.

    Learning outcomes:
    You recognize cultural effects on individuals, families and communities in every-day life, communication and health beliefs and values. You have basic skills for operating in multicultural environment. You know cultural concepts related to health care context. You are able to plan evidence-based nursing care and counseling for patients and families from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally sensitive manner. You know about global environmental risks for health and well-being. You know the most common tropical diseases and basics of their nursing and medical care as well prevention of the illnesses.

    1 Sufficient
    You know about cultural effects on people and societies, and are able to use the knowledge in planning evidence-based nursing care of patients from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally competent manner. You are familiar with cultural concepts related to health care context. You demonstrate evidence-based knowledge on global environmental risks for health and well-being. You present your knowledge of the most common tropical diseases, their nursing and medical care and prevention. You demonstrate basic cross-cultural communication skills.

    2 Satisfactory
    You recognize cultural effects on people and societies and are able to use the knowledge in planning evidence-based nursing care of patients from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally competent manner. You know cultural concepts related to health care context. You demonstrate evidence-based knowledge on global environmental risks for health and well-being. You implement your knowledge of the most common tropical diseases and their nursing and medical care considering these in the planning of nursing process. You demonstrate basic cross-cultural communication skills.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3 and 4
    3 Good
    You demonstrate your knowledge about cultural effects on people and societies and are able to use the knowledge in planning evidence-based nursing care of patients from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally competent manner. You are able to use cultural concepts in health care context. You demonstrate evidence-based knowledge on global environmental risks for health and well-being assessing their impacts on individuals and societies. You implement your knowledge of the most common tropical diseases and their nursing and medical care, applying the knowledge to the planning of nursing process. You demonstrate good cross-cultural communication skills.

    4 Very good
    You demonstrate understanding cultural effects on people and societies, and are able to apply the understanding in planning evidence-based nursing care of patients from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally competent manner. You are able to use cultural concepts in health care context fluently. You demonstrate evidence-based knowledge on global environmental risks for health and well-being assessing their impacts on individuals and societies. You implement comprehensive knowledge of the most common tropical diseases and their nursing and medical care, applying the knowledge to the planning of nursing process. You demonstrate good cross-cultural communication skills.

    5 Excellent
    You demonstrate understanding cultural effects on people and societies, and are able to apply the understanding in planning evidence-based nursing care of patients from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally competent manner. You are able to use cultural concepts in health care context fluently. You demonstrate comprehensive evidence-based knowledge on global environmental risks for health and well-being critically assessing their impacts on individuals and societies. You implement excellent knowledge of the most common tropical diseases and their nursing and medical care, applying the knowledge to the planning of nursing process. You demonstrate good cross-cultural communication skills.

    Working life cooperation

    This course gives you basic skills for operating in multicultural working environment. It provides you cultural concepts related to health care context, you are able to plan evidence-based nursing care and counseling for patients and families from different cultural backgrounds in ethical and culturally sensitive manner. This course gives knowledge about global environmental risks for health and well-being as well as most common tropical diseases, which is beneficial in patient education and patient counseling.
