Objective

The course is designed to introduce students to qualitative research in social sciences from the pragmatic point of view.

Content

The course goes through entire research process: plan contract; fieldwork, research data collection, coding and interpretation, the writing process and the research report. The course presents examples of research strategies and solutions.

5 (excellent):
The student is able to determine the reasons for the qualitative research information theoretical foundations and methods. Student examines expertly the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research. Student can evaluate a variety of qualitative data and methods for the purpose of different types of research tasks solving. The student has excellent capabilities to do qualitative research. Student critically evaluates qualitative research and its applicability in their own field of research and development.

4 (very good):
The student is able to determine the reasons for the qualitative research information theoretical foundations and methods. Students examine expertly the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research. Student evaluates a variety of qualitative data and methods for the purpose of different types of research tasks solving. The student has a commendable capacity to make qualitative research. Student evaluate qualitative research and its applicability in their own field of research and development.

3 (good):
The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as the the strengths and weaknesses. The student selects and justifies the qualitative data and the methods of choice, which are applicable to his/her final thesis/dissertation research tasks solving. Student is well prepared to do qualitative research. Students can evaluate the qualitative research and apply knowledge in their field of research and development.

2 (satisfactory):
The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as the the strengths and weaknesses. The student is able to identify and select the various kinds of qualitative data and methods that are applicable to different types of research tasks solving. Students are able to do qualitative research. The student understands how to evaluate qualitative research, and to apply the knowledge in their field of research and development.

1 (sufficient):
The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as the the strengths and weaknesses. Student identifies different types of qualitative data and methods that are applicable to different types of research tasks solving. The student has the basic skills needed to do qualitative research. The student understands how to evaluate qualitative research.

0 (failed)
The student is not aware of the theoretical basis of qualitative research. The student does not have the skills to evaluate and carry out qualitative research.
