Content scheduling

The timetable of the course is agreed on at the first meeting of the course and published in the learning environment.

Objective

The student is able to simplify expressions, create and solve equations and groups of equations and draw, create and analyse elementary functions. The student masters trigonometry of triangles. The student knows the concept of complex number. In addition, the course may include contents needed in degree program (matrixes, geometry, business mathematics).

EA-KN EUR-ACE Knowledge and Understanding: The student has the mathematical competence that is essential in engineering studies.

YHTOP Learning skills: The student can assess obtained results by using calculators and information technology. The student is able to share his knowledge and apply mathematical knowledge to engineering applications.

Content

Elementary algebra, equations, groups of equations, trigonometry, elementary functions, concept of complex number. Applications to engineering. Matrixes, geometry and applications to business, if necessary in degree program.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the content of the course and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner in challenging engineering applications.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential content of the course and he is able to apply his skills to usual engineering problems.

Good (3): The student masters most of the essential content of the course and he is able to solve basic engineering problems.

Satisfactory (2): The student masters the basic content of the course but in the application of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate.

Adequate (1): The student knows the basic content of the course. The student can satisfactorily solve simple problems.

Assessment is based on midterms or exam and possibly calculation exercises.
