Objective

The knowledge of Process Development is requirement for more comprehensive development of company operations.

You learn to develop sufficiently operational processes of organization by using standardized quality, environmental, occupational health and safety as well as energy management systems. You know sufficiently the possibilities to apply quality award criterias in process development.

Your competence is growing through understanding the basic concepts of the process development and management systems through selecting suitable methods and last implementing them into the practice.

After you have passed the course, you can develop the processes and operations of the company from the wider point of view.

Engineering practice:
You have a ability to select and use appropriate methods and techniques to develop operation processes. You also be able to combine theory and practice to solve development problems. You have understanding of applicable techniques and methods and of their limitations. You also have awareness of the non-technical implications of their choices. You demonstrate an awareness of the health, safety, environmental and legal issues and responsibilities of engineering practice, understand the impact of engineering solutions in a societal and environmental context.

Communication and team-working:
You are able to work independently in situations, in addition to your first language, at least one foreign language.
You have also an ability to function effectively as a member of a team.

Content

Operational systems and system thinking. Development of operational management systems. Continual improvement. ISO 9001 based quality management systems. ISO 14001 based environmental management systems. ISO 45001 based OH&S management systems. ISO 50001 based energy management systems.
Quality assurance of measurements and measuring systems (e.g. RR-tests). Using of quality award criterias (EFQM, MBNQA).

Teaching methods

Lectures, information retrieval and applied learning assigments. Assignments in groups are based on Problem-based learning. In the middle of the course you give anonymous feedback.

Student workload

Lectures 16 h, learning assignments 70 h and independent work 49 h. Total 135 h learning work.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment consists of exam 50% and learning assignments 50%.

Sufficient (1): You can identify the basic knowledge and terminology but you have significant gaps in the knowledge how to understand the most important problem solving techniques and ideas. You are able to solve simple problems in a satisfactory manner
applying different quality techniques.

Satisfactory (2): You know the basic knowledge and terminology but there are some gaps in the knowledge how to implement the most important problem solving techniques and ideas
using different process developing techniques.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You master the essential knowledge and skills also in more complicated situations You
- are able to develop operational processes as a whole
- can develop management systems utilizing system standards
- manage to use of more developed quality tools and can utilize quality award criterias
- manage quality assurance of measuring systems.

Very good (4): You master the essential knowledge and skills and you can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical manner to problem solving situations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You master the essential knowledge and skills required and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to problem solving situations. You can make simple synthesis and conclusions.

Qualifications

Base knowledge about quality and quality thinking. The basic technical knowledge helps you to pass the course but it is not necessary.
