Objective

The students know the main methods and materials of music teaching at the elementary level and are able to develop and adapt them. They are familiar with teaching and with the teacher's work. They are familiar with teaching guidance and evaluation in practical teaching work and have been drilled therein in work places.

Content

Teaching materials and methods needed in free general culture work and art. Teaching situation planning for elemental level groups and command, ability evaluation. The metacognitive skills of a teacher.

Teaching methods

Toteutukselle mahtuu 12 opiskelijaa. Osallistujat valitaan opintojen eteneminen priorisoinnin perusteella.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Evaluation of portfolio: guiding teacher's evaluation, comparative evaluation, self-evaluation.

Pass: the students know the basic principles and materials in elemental music teaching, the methods and the challenges in the work milieu. They have the skills to guide the learning of student groups over a long span. They are able to present in orderly manner their own view of the main features of group teaching based on their experience, on the existing sources and on their skills at the moment.

Qualifications

The students are familiar with the basics of music education and understand the diverse conceptions connected with music learning. They understand the significance of study plans as foundations for teaching. They are familiar with music institute activity and team work. They are capable of developing reflective teaching attitudes and understand the principles behind portfolio work.
