Objective

The aim of the course is to develop solid, basic skills to work in different contexts in the field of nursing. You will learn basic terminology to communicate with your clients and colleagues. You are able to give clear instructions and tell about your clients’ condition and care. You know how to seek relevant information in English and how to improve your language skills autonomously during your studies and in your work.

Teaching methods

Verkkototeutus 21.9.-13.12.2020. Etäopetustoteutukset järjestetään Optima-oppimisympäristössä. Etäopetustoteutuksiin ei sisälly lähiopetusta, mutta niillä voidaan edellyttää verkkotapaamisiin osallistumista. Kurssilla työskennellään kurssin alussa ilmoitetun aikataulun muaksiesti. Kurssi jakaantuu osiin ja ne on suoritettava annetussa järjestyksessä. Työskentely on pääosin itsenäistä, mutta sinun on hyvä varautua myös ryhmätyöskentelyyn.

Etäopetustoteutuksella edellytetään päätelaitteesi ja Optima-oppimisympäristön yhteensopivuutta sekä oppimisympäristön että esitystyökalujen sujuvaa hallintaa. Tarvitset kuulokemikrofonin, web-kameran ja toimivan verkkoyhteyden. Etäopetustoteutukseen sisältyy sekä kirjallisia että suullisia harjoituksia ja arvioitavia palautustehtäviä. Suullisia tehtäviä tehdään äänitiedostoina, videotiedostoina ja videotapaamisina. Sinulta edellytetään web-kameran käyttöä ja henkilöllisyyden todistamista.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student understands clear spoken and written English concerning clients’ care. He/she masters the basic structures of the language and communicates efficiently. The level of pronunciation is sufficient to convey the intended message. The range of vocabulary enables coping in the most common situations in the field of nursing. He/she can communicate in English with clients in common everyday situations and report on clients’ status to a multi-professional team using English in both written and spoken forms. He/she acts responsibly and abides by established agreements.
