Objective

Students know the requirements for a good management information system and understand the needs and configuration of an information system for an inclusive enterprise resource planning system (ERP). Students also understand the impact of the reporting from the information systems for the management work and is capable to produce a report for management when given the data. Upon completion of the course, the students are able to participate the planning and configuration process of an ERP system suitable for the company and to utilise the information produced by the system in different business decision-making situations.

Basic concept of organizational information systems.
Management information systems
Modelling of a process
Investment calculations
Basics of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (financial management, customer relationship management, human resources)
Reporting for management
ERP - SAP

Materials

Course material is instructed on the first webinar lesson.

Completion alternatives

Virtual exam 40% of the grade, investment calculations 30% of the grade, management reporting 30% of the grade. A report from ERP -system Passed/Failed, mandatory for grading.

Student workload

Total work load 135 hours (one credit equals 27 hours of student work).

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient 1
Student has difficulties with understanding the structure of an information system and the connection to the common business operations. Student is not able to operate independently with any business information system. Student is not able to produce reports for management without significant supervision. Student has difficulties in understanding the concept of ERP systems and the meaning of an ERP system within business operations

Satisfactory 2
Student can operate with a company´s business information system with supervision.
Student understands the general structures of an information system and understands the significance of reporting. Student has difficulties producing reports for management. Student recognizes an ERP system as a part of business operations.

Good 3
You are able to operate independently with a company´s business information system. You understand the general operations of an information system. You are able to recognize various business processes and understand the interfaces between different processes. You are able to produce a basic report from an information system when supervised. You are able to understands the basics of an ERP system and the connection with business operations.

Very good 4
You can operate independently with a company´s business information system . You understand the structures of various information systems and are able to produce a basic report from an information system. You recognize the structures in business processes and the interfaces between different processes. You understand the basics of an ERP system and the meaning of an ERP system for the business operations.

Excellent 5
You can operate independently with a company´s business information system. You understands the structures of various information systems and are able to produce information for the business decision making. You recognize the meaning of a business process and the structures within a process. You understand the interfaces between different processes. You comprehend the basics of an ERP system, the meaning of an ERP system for the business operations and are capable to participate the development and configuration process of the information systems.

Qualifications

Students know methods supporting the strategy process of financial administration.
