Objective
Student masters holistic and culturally sensitive clinical examination and assessment of a client recognizing pathological changes in human bodily functions.
Student is able to make a nursing diagnosis, plan treatment and implement appropriate care using clinical decision making skills and consulting medical profession and other professionals as and when needed.
Student encounters the client as an active participator and utilizes appropriate client centered guidance methods in health related questions making use of technology.
Content
History taking of the patient. Basics of examination of the heart and circulatory system, ENT system and lungs, eyes and abdominal area. The basics of neurological, psychiatric and musculoskeletal inspection. Recognizing infectious diseases and treating minor traumas. Follow-up care and patient guidance in long-term diseases. Triage skills and patient guidance on care and services available. Assessing the need for care using different communication channels. Patient guidance in medication enforcing the patients skills and knowledge to self-care.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Pass:
Student is able to utilize evidence based information in making decisions in nursing. Student recognizes the responsibility and benefit of nursing in multiprofessional team and in social and healthcare services. Student reflects the ethical issues in nurse’s appointments and is able to present ideas for improvement. Student reflects own choices in assignments critically and analytically utilizing relevant, evidence based and multiprofessional knowledge.
Student is able to do patient assessment based on patient anamnesis and adequate examinations. Student can do a thorough physical examination utilizing appropriate medical equipment safely.
Qualifications
Student masters the basic concepts and methods of health care clienthood and clinical nursing in social and healthcare environment. Student recognizes the aims, methods and principles of promoting health and functional ability of client in client centered manner. Student is able to utilize evidence based knowledge in nursing decision making.
