Objective

The student masters the basic structures, operating principles and equivalent circuits of the most common industrial dc and ac motors. The student is familiar with the operating characteristics and possible applications of the various motor types. The student is able to interpret standard symbols describing the performance characteristics and structure of motors and is familiar with the excitation systems used in generators and the protection methods of generators. The student is also familiar with the control circuits of electric motors and the components used in them. The student knows the basic transformer types and their operating principles and applications, and protection methods.

TSASV - Competence in electric power systems

The student has the knowledge of the basic structures of the transformers and electric machines, that are components for network of electricity distribution and buildings’ electrical network. The student has also knowledge of the protection, controlling and operation supervision of transformers and electric machines.

EA-IV: Investigations

The student is able to conduct appropriate experiments in laboratory environment and can interpret the data and draw conclusions.

Student workload

Yhteensä 135 tuntia oppimistyötä.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the basic structures, operating principles, operating characteristics, protections and equivalent circuits of transformers and electric machines and is able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired e.g. when selecting devices and protection methods.

Very good (4): The student knows the basic structures, operating principles, operating characteristics, protections and equivalent circuits of transformers and electric machines and is able to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired e.g. when selecting devices and protection methods.

Good (3): The student identifies the basic structures and operating principles of transformers and electric machines and understands their significance when selecting devices and protection methods.

Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the basic structures and operating principles of transformers and electric machines but in the application of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate when selecting devices and protection methods.

Adequate (1): The student is familiar with the basic structures and operating principles of transformers and electric machines.

Qualifications
