Objective

Student masters clinical examination of a patient and is able to utilize the methods in assessing patient. Student can differentiate pathological changes in human functions.
Student is able to do clinical assessment and decision making in nursing in his/her role consulting other professionals if needed.
Student encounters the client as an active participator and utilizes appropriate client centered guidance methods.

Content

Anamnesis, inspection of heart and circulation system, lungs, upper respiratory system, ears, eyes and abdominal areas. The basics of neurological, psychiatrical and musculoskeletal inspection. Recognizing infection diseases, minor trauma and follow up of long-term diseases and guidance in them. Triage. Assessment of the need for care using different communication channels. Guidance in medication care and consultation. Midwifery students will have studies of vaccination in this course.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass:
Student is able to utilize evidence based information in making decisions in nursing. Student recognizes the responsibility and benefit of nursing in multiprofessional team and in social and healthcare services. Student reflects the ethical issues in nurse’s appointments and is able to present ideas for improvement. Student reflects own choices in assignments critically and analytically utilizing relevant, evidence based and multiprofessional knowledge.
Student is able to do patient assessment based on patient anamnesis and adequate examinations. Student can do a thorough physical examination utilizing appropriate medical equipment safely.

Qualifications

Student masters the basic concepts and methods of the clienthood and working environment in social and healthcare. Student recognizes the aims, methods and principles in promoting health and functional ability in client centered care. Student is able to utilize evidence based knowledge in decision making in nursing.
