Content scheduling

Lectures twice a week, two learning assignments with specific deadlines (Assignment 1: Destination analysis, Assignment 2: Project work) and the exam at the end of course. Assignment 2 Project work: Tourism educators networking event: event preparations and implementation in Jyväskylä during week 47 (20.-24.11.2023).

Objective

You understand the concepts and phenomena of congress and meeting industry. You know congress and meeting tourism actors and key services both nationally and internationally. You are able to describe critical success factors related to the meeting process and apply them in practice in the implementation of high-quality meeting services.

• Congress and meeting tourism’s operational structure in Finland and abroad
• Congress and meeting process and its critical success factors

Teaching methods

This course is implemented totally face-fo-face. Methods of teaching and learning used in the implementation:
* lectures
* learning assignments: group work and project work (planning and implementing a meeting)
* group discussions
* exam

Employer connections

Course includes various visiting industry specialists supporting student's knowhow about the meetings industry development and future aspects.

Students' building of local networks and industry knowledge is supported with visits to local meetings venues.

Students participate in organizing in practice a meeting " National Tourism educators networking event" on November 2023".

Exam schedules

Exam at the end of the course. Three exam opportunities are given.

International connections

Internationalisation aspect is accommodated to this implementation using international examples and material of Congress and meeting management.

Completion alternatives

3 (Good) You understand the concepts and phenomena of congress and meeting industry. You know congress and meeting tourism actors and key services both nationally and internationally. You are able to describe critical success factors related to the meeting process and apply them in practice in the implementation of high-quality meeting services

4 (Very Good) You understand the concepts and phenomena of congress and meeting industry. You know congress and meeting tourism actors and key services both nationally and internationally. You are able to describe critical success factors related to the meeting process, analyze factors and apply them in practice in the implementation of high-quality meeting services.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

5 (Excellent) You understand the concepts and phenomena of congress and meeting industry. You understand the importance and roles of different congress and meeting tourism actors and key services both nationally and internationally. You are able to analyze critical success factors related to the meeting process and create new high-quality meeting services.

Qualifications

The student understands the concepts related to service operations and has basic customer competence. The student understands the general concepts and phenomena related to tourism.
