Content scheduling

The lectures will be held on a weekly basis on a variety of topics. At the same time, the student will complete learning assignments/exercises in accordance with the given schedule. The pair assignments/exercises conducted in lieu of the weekly lectures will be separately agreed upon in connection with the classes.

Labour law is a legal area that concerns everyone, employees and employers alike. You will need knowledge of labour and civil service law constantly in your work, irrespective of whether you work in the private or public sector.

Teaching methods

The course will be completed by attending lectures that will be provided in the form online lectures (webinar) as well as by independently watching online lectures provided by external parties. In addition, the course includes learning assignments and exercises as well as classroom pair/group assignments.

Exam schedules

Exam is in the Moodle will open on Friday, 3. May 2024 at 7:00 and close on Sunday, 5. May 2024 at 7:00. The first resit exam will open on Friday, 17. May 2024 at 7:00 and close on Sunday, 19 May 2024 at 18:00. The second resit exam will open on Friday, 24 May 2024 at 7:00 and close on Sunday, 26 May 2024 at 18:00. Retake will be possible during that time without a time limit.

Completion alternatives

The use of an optional completion method is subject to a well-founded reason that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Student workload

The learning assignments will mainly consist of court cases related to the application of legislation and the preparation of documents. Two (2) weeks have been reserved for completing each learning assignment so that the assignment will open and close at a specified time.

You are familiar with the legislation governing labour and civil service law and the general principles pertaining to labour and civil service law. You understand the differences between an employment and public-service relationship. You recognise the legal question at stake in the court case. You are able to draw up employment contracts.

Satisfactory 2
You are familiar with the legislation governing labour and civil service law and the general principles pertaining to labour and civil service law and are able to apply them in connection with assignments. You understand the differences between an employment and public-service relationship and the position of a municipal officeholder. You recognise the legal question at stake in the court case and the applicable points of law. You know the main rules related to the establishment of an employment contract.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3
You are familiar with the legislation governing labour and civil service law and the general principles pertaining to labour and civil service law and are able to apply them in connection with assignments. You understand the differences between an employment and public-service relationship and the position of a municipal officeholder as well as the employee’s and the employer’s rights and obligations. You recognise the legal question at stake in the court case and the applicable points of law. You know the main rules related to the establishment of an employment contract.

Very Good 4
You are familiar with the legislation governing labour and civil service law and the general principles pertaining to labour and civil service law and are able to apply them in connection with learning and work assignments. You are familiar with the employee’s and the employer’s statutory rights and obligations. You recognise the legal question at stake in the court case and the applicable points of law and resolve the case in accordance with the instructions provided. You know the main rules related to the establishment of an employment contract and the related terms and conditions.

You are familiar with the legislation governing labour and civil service law and the general principles pertaining to labour and civil service law and are able to apply them in connection with learning and work assignments. You are familiar with the employee’s and the employer’s statutory rights and obligations and know the related legal practice. You recognise the legal question at stake in the court case and the applicable points of law and are capable of analysing the case in a versatile way, showing problem-centred resolving ability. You know the main rules related to the establishment of an employment and public-sector employment contract and the related terms and conditions and are able to give instructions for the preparation of an employment contract.

Written feedback on the learning assignments every 3 to 4 weeks after the expiry of the time limit given for returning the assignment. The pair/group assignments conducted or presented during the class will be reviewed and feedback will be received on them during the class, and they also involve self and peer assessment.
