Content scheduling
The scheduling of the course content is determined by the dates of the contact days.
Objective
Knowledge of the basics of production technology provides a basis for making production engineering and production control solutions in companies engaged in production.
You will learn to outline the production-related activities of the future profession and to form an overall picture of production as part of the company's business. You will learn to understand how and by what methods production is designed, controlled and developed.
You will learn how to manage the principles of productivity, profitability and sustainable manufacturing. You will also learn the concepts of success factors in production operations such as cost efficiency, delivery capacity and flexibility.
After completing the course, you will be able to e.g. make simple cost calculations, design production controls, draw layout drawings, and outline systems for controlling items.
Knowledge and understanding:
You have the knowledge and understanding of production design, control and development methods suitable for the workshop.
Engineering practice:
You have the ability to identify and solve production problems by choosing appropriate, well-established, analytical and computational methods.
You can develop and design production processes and systems, which may include technical and economical constraints.
Content
Production network, production types, parts of the production system and production flow, production control and production design, cooperation in product development and production operations, maintenance.
Materials

Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, learning assignments based on information retrieval and applications. Learning assignments are done and returned both individually and in groups.
Free-form anonymous feedback is collected in the middle of the course.
Exam schedules
Exam in week no.17. The first re-exam in May 2021 and the second in September 2021.
Student workload
In multimodal implementation, lectures 24 h, learning assignments 86 h, independent work 25 h. A total of 135 h of learning work.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The overall assessment consists of 50% of the exam and 50% of the learning assignments.
The examinations are organized three times in accordance with the degree rule.
Adequate (1): You will recognize the different functions and terminology of production, but you will only be able to adequately apply them in learning tasks.
Satisfactory (2): You understand what is meant by manufacturing flow, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturing flexibility. In addition, you will be able to describe the most common types of production, but you will only satisfactorily understand how production systems are designed and controlled.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Good (3): You master the main things of the course, ie you are able to justify:
- to set up different production structures
- develop control systems for items
- to design layouts of production facilities
- make simple cost calculations.
Very good (4): You can create production structures, control items, design machine shop layouts, and make cost calculations. In addition, you will be able to apply what you have learned critically and innovatively in production design and development tasks. You will also be able to strongly justify the solutions and choices you make.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Excellent (5): You can create production structures, control items, design machine shop layouts and make cost calculations. In addition, you will be able to apply what you have learned critically and innovatively in production design, control and development tasks. You will also be able to strongly justify the solutions and choices you make. You will be able to make syntheses and conclusions from the issues.
Qualifications
No special requirements. Motivation is the most important thing. Knowledge of manufacturing methods promotes study in the course, but is not necessary.
Further information
Continuous developmental feedback is given on learning assignments.
