Objective
You are familiar with a standard which is used in Finland and elsewhere in the European Union in lighting designing. You are familiar with the basic quantities and definitions of lighting technology and, together with space-specific lighting requirements, are able to apply them in creating and analyzing lighting modeling. This course provides the skills needed to begin lighting design.
EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You know the basic operation of the software used in professional lighting design. You will be able to do lighting modeling with the software and evaluate the compliance and quality of the modeling.
EA-CT COMMUNICATION AND TEAM-WORKING
You have the ability to communicate about lighting design with others. You will be able to evaluate the quality of other students 'lighting models and also utilize other students' development suggestions for your own modeling.
Content
Introduction to standard lighting modeling
Introduction to lighting design software
Lighting requirements and modeling of the illuminated space
Selection and placement of luminaires
Review and analysis of lighting modeling results
Materials
Learning environment (Moodle) materials
Teaching methods
The learning method used is problem-based learning. Concretely, learning takes place through learning tasks that are completed and returned independently. The completion of the learning tasks will be guided by video tutorials and tutorial lessons.
Completion alternatives
The procedures for admission are described in the Degree Regulations and the Study Guide. The course tutor will provide further information on any specific procedures for the course.
Student workload
The total calculated workload for a student is 54 hours of coursework.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
To pass this course you need to know the basics of standard lighting design. You will be able to create lighting models and analyze them. You have also been involved in evaluating the quality of other students’ modeling and taking into account development suggestions related to your own modeling.
Qualifications
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering
Further information
All course assignments must be completed in order to receive a pass.
