Content scheduling

Lectures until week 44, then mandatory laboratory exercises.

Objective

You will get acquainted with industrial measurements and their technology. You will need a basic knowledge of physics and electrical engineering in the course. You will be able to use what you have learned in this course in many other courses during your studies and, of course, in working life.

EUR-ACE INFORMATION AND UNDERSTANDING
You are familiar with industrial measurement methods and understand their physical and chemical fundamentals. You know how to analyze measurement results and understand the measurement uncertainty associated with measurements. You can make choices between different measurement methods and you can implement simple PC-based measurement applications.

Content

Measurement methods
Physical and chemical basis of measurements
Analysis of measurement data
PC-based measurement applications (Labview)

Location and time

Lecture room and laboratory Rajakatu DP66

Materials

The material is in Moodle. Useful instructions for using Labview can be found on the National Instruments website

Teaching methods

Lectures, assignments and laboratory exercises.

Exam schedules

No Exam

Completion alternatives

No alternative methods of execution

Student workload

Reserve time to use about 6 hours / week.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate (1): You recognize the basics and terminology, but interpreting them is challenging.

Satisfactory (2): You know the basics and terminology, but applying the key things is challenging.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You understand the physical and chemical principles of measurement methods, you can evaluate the reliability of measurement and you can design PC-based measurement methods. You understand the principles so deeply that you know how to locate the causes of inaction.

Commendable (4): You master the key issues and their application.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You master the key things and know how to apply them, outlining different solutions, showing creativity and innovation.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of physics and electrical engineering

Further information

During the first three weeks, the first assignment must be returned or else you will be dropped from the course.

80% attendance is compulsory at the lectures of the course. Attendance is monitored. 100% attendance is mandatory in the laboratories and a report must be prepared.

Absences are agreed upon with the teacher for justified reasons. For example, cases of illness or the necessary expertise have been otherwise demonstrated. The evaluation criteria take into account the student's active participation in the course. For example, demonstrating competence by doing the share of tasks defined by the teacher.

The student must acknowledge the course feedback as given (task in Moodle).

The returned exercises and laboratory reports of the course are evaluated on a scale of 0-5.

The grade of the course consists of the grades of the exercises as follows.
Lesson exercises 20% each
Laboratory report 40%
