Objective

Maintenance and its planning are an important part of the maintenance of energy production plants and energy networks.

In this course, you will learn the importance and role of the maintenance in energy production plant and in energy networks. You will learn the purpose of maintenance when production efficiency is maintained.

You will learn to identify the content and significance of different maintenance strategies and to identify some of the methods behind these strategies. You will learn to outline the themes of life cycle thinking and apply the above methods in the energy industry.

The development of your skills begins with the identification of basic concepts of maintenance, such as types of maintenance, maintenance methods and functions. Further developments in the understanding, selection and practical application of the above basic concepts, especially in energy production plants and energy networks

After completing this course, you will understand the importance of modern maintenance in energy production and distribution. You have learned to identify the basic concepts of maintenance and to apply individual methods in practice, ie to develop maintenance in the energy industry.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
You know how to identify maintenance development targets and starting points for developing operational reliability in energy production and distribution. You recognize the basic concepts of maintenance and know how to apply individual methods in practice, ie you know how to develop maintenance in the energy industry.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPETENCES
You will be able to work systematically and purposefully in maintenance expert positions in the energy industry. You will be able to share your own expertise and use the expertise of others to your advantage in developing energy industry maintenance.

Concepts and definitions of maintenance. Maintenance strategies. Maintenance development tools. Life cycle thinking. Maintenance development trends. Maintenance in power plants and in energy networks.

Lecture material and recordings (Moodle)
Where applicable: Mäkelä, Veli-Matti ja Tuunanen, Jarmo, Suomalainen kaukolämmitys (2015); Kunnossapito, Kunnossapidon julkaisusarja no:10; as well as other possible literature.

Teaching methods

Hybrid teaching and independent study. Information retrieval and applied learning tasks either individually or in groups.

Exam schedules

Midterm exam in the middle of the study period. Two re-examination.

Student workload

Luennot 41 h, itsenäinen ja ryhmätyöskentely 67 h, yhteensä 108 h.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The overall assessment consists of an exam 100% and assignments and laboratory work, the compulsory completion of which is required. The exam is held three times in accordance with the degree rules.

Satisfactory (2): You recognize the concepts and methods of maintenance and know how to apply them satisfactorily in the energy industry.

Good (3): You master the concepts and methods of maintenance and know how to apply them in the energy industry.

Very good (4): You master the concepts and methods of modern maintenance and know how to apply them in the energy industry.

Excellent (5): You master the concepts and methods of modern maintenance and you are able to apply them critically and innovatively in the energy industry.
