Objective

Purpose
Transport Management is one of the key business processes of supply chain. By Transport Management Systems you can manage transports, improve service and reduce cost whilst reducing environmental impact. By measuring, analyzing, and continuously improving transport management you can affect goods availability for customers and customer satisfaction. By managing and controlling transports, you can proactively react for better customer need fulfillment.

During the course you will learn basics of Transport Management and meaning of basic concepts of Transport Management Systems. Course will also help to understand basics of logistics network and monitoring of results. After the course you will have a perspective to transport management tasks.

This course develops and assesses the following knowhow:
- Business skills, engineering practice, communication and team working.

Learning outcome
After completing this course, you will know the principles of Transport Management Systems. You will be able to apply how to plan and execute transports in global logistics network. You will understand how to control transports in Transport Management Systems. You will also understand to how Transport Management Systems is connected to companies’ other systems.

The lecture material related to the course can be found in the course workspace. The course also uses other material related to the topics. This will be communicated in the course.

Teaching methods

Completion of the course includes contact lessons at campus, learning assignments and a more extensive project work.

Some of the learning assignments are done individually, some in small groups, some require independent work. The assignments are described in more detail in the course workspace.

The first assignment on this course is mandatory for all students and must be completed within 3 weeks from the beginning of the course. Students that have not completed this first assignment, will be removed from the course.

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours.

(1) The student demonstrates his / her competence in the subjects dealt with in the course, identifies the topics dealt with in the course.

(2) In addition to the above, the student can describe the topics covered in the course systematically and knows how to apply them.

(3) In addition to the above, the student demonstrates the ability to justify the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between options.

(4) In addition to the above, the student demonstrates the ability to apply what he or she has learned and to evaluate the solutions and their effects analytically.

(5) In addition to the above, the student demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the course topics and the ability to structure and analyze the effects of solutions in a broader context. It also demonstrates innovation in applying what they have learned to different situations.
