Objective

Purpose of the course
The aim of this course is to provide theoretical basis for planning, implementing and evaluating nursing and palliative care for patients with internal diseases.

Learning outcomes of the course
After completing this course, you are able to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients with internal diseases both in the acute and in the stable situations. You understand the job description of a nurse in a multi-professional team. You utilize evidence-based information in decision-making. You are able to prevent and care for possible complications associated with patients' illnesses and deepen patient councelling skills. You know the basics of drug and fluid therapy of patients with internal diseases. You are able to evaluate and provide nursing care for the symptoms of palliative care patients according to their individual care needs. You recognize ethical issues in internal medicine and palliative care.

You have the basic knowledge to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for acute patients with internal diseases. You make decisions based on textbooks in relation to prevention, treatment, and follow up of patients with internal diseases or palliative care patients.

Satisfactory 2
You have the knowledge base to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for acute patients with internal diseases while reasoning own decisions. You make decisions based on textbooks in relation to prevention, treatment, and follow up of patients with internal diseases or palliative care patients.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3
You have a versatile knowledge base to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for acute patients with internal diseases while taking into account their individual situation. You are able to reason your decisions based on evidence in the prevention, treatment and follow-up nursing care of patients with internal diseases and palliative care patients.

Very good 4
You have versatile knowledge base for planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care of acute patients with internal diseases in an informed and analytical way. You are able to make decisions by utilizing multidisciplinary, evidence-based knowledge in the prevention, treatment delivery and follow-up of internal diseases as well as in palliative care.

Excellent 5
You have a broad knowledge base to plan, implement and critically evaluate nursing care of acute patients with internal diseases. You are able to make informed decisions by using multidisciplinary evidence-based information. You take into account the individuality and resources of the patient and apply them at different stages of care and in palliative care.

Opintojakson opetusmenetelmät perustuvat konsktruktivistiseen oppimiskäsitykseen, jossa oppiminen nähdään opiskelijan oman toiminnan tuloksena ja sosiaalisella vuorovaikutuksella on siinä keskeinen rooli. Opetuskertoihin valmistaudutaan perehtymällä käsiteltäviin asioihin ennakkoon annetun ohjeistuksen mukaisesti. Uutta tietoa opetellaan soveltamaan opettajan johdolla ja ymmärtämisen painottamisella edistetään mielekästä tiedon jäsentämistä. Oppimistehtävistä ja ryhmätöistä annetaan palautetta, mutta myös itsearvioinnilla ja vertaisarvioinnilla on tärkeä rooli. Kurssin tentti arvioidaan arvosanalla, joka perustuu opetussuunnitelman kriteereihin.
