Objective
Purpose of this course
In this course the student will get to know the different aspects of environment and to assess and modify the environment in terms of accessibility.

Learning outcomes
After this course the student will know how to assess accessibility of an environment and how to find solutions to solve accessibility problems.The student understands the diversity of the terms environment and accessibility. The student knows how to search for information related to environmental assessment and adaptation and is familiar with research and development activities related to accessibility.The student is able to create an accessible and adaptable environment. The student will know what impacts on work safety and ergonomics and knows how individuals, communities and society can promote occupational justice. The student will know technology possibilities in online consultation.
Content
Environment and accessibility as terms and introduction to related research data.
Assistive devices and technology -related databases and internet pages.
Assessment of physical accessibility and adaptation of an environment.
Guiding family members and constellation networks (adaptation of social and cultural environment).
Digitalisation and virtual environments, for example online rehabilitation and online assessment (virtual reality, mobile technology, video related communication).
Ergonomics (physical and cognitive), coping at work.
Low technology devices

The course includes face-to-face teaching at Jamk campus and is best suited to students living near Jyväskylä

The student has sufficient knowledge about environmental accessibility and home modifications. The student remembers some assistive devices and the processes of delivering the devices to clients. The student recalls facts about a client situation and is able to make a plan for a home visit as an occupational therapist. (course assignment)

The student selects innovatively information about accessibility, assistive devices and client functioning with the home visit plan. (course assignment)

Assessment of learning is based on the learning outcomes. Assessment is based on student performance in exam and assignments. In addition, students must demonstrate their competence in lessons (webinars / face-to-face sessions) and preparation tasks.
