Objective
You can understandably communicate in English in everyday situations both orally and in writing. You will learn to master and apply the basic structures of the English language, and you will be able to perform other courses in English included in your degree programme. You can evaluate your own development needs and take responsibility for your own development of language skills.
Content
During the course, you will reproduce and apply basic structures and vocabulary both orally and in writing. You will apply English in everyday situations of leisure and working life.

Self-study in Moodle following a given schedule.

The meetings are voluntary info-meetings that are recorded, and you can watch the recordings later in Moodle.

Materials
Teacher’s material will be used in the course.
Teaching methods
You complete the course independently within the given timetables in Moodle learning environment. You do various oral and written exercises on vocabulary and grammar. You do learning assignments for which you get feedback from the teacher. The course has ONE GROUP ASSIGNMENT. There is a written exam at the end of the course in EXAM studio.

Student workload
Voluntary info-webinars 5-10h, independent/virtual work 125h, exam 5h (depending on implementation). Total 135 hours (the amount of work for one credit is 27 hours)
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Passed
You are able to communicate understandably both orally and in writing in familiar and everyday situations, although communication may at times be slow and inconsistent. You understand clear speech and writing with familiar content. You have a reasonable command of the basic structures of the language although you may have errors and some faltering with them. Your vocabulary is sufficient for every-day situations. The level of pronunciation is sufficient for the delivery of content.
Failed
Your performance does not meet the criteria for passing the course.
Qualifications
English level A2–B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR, https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/sites/default/files/cefr-en.pd f). For example, seven years of English studies at comprehensive school and vocational institution.

Course performance is evaluated on the Pass/Fail evaluation scale. The assessment is based on continuous assessment and feedback, course assignments, and a written exam.
