Evaluation scale

Pass/Fail

Content scheduling

Contact classes are implemented according to a separate implementation-specific course plan, which is published in Moodle.

Objective

The student knows basics of pipeline design and can design piping network with PI- and LAYOUT-drawing

Content

Basics of industrial process piping design. The examples come from power plant, industrial and heat distribution pipelines.
Supporting pipelines and connecting them to other structures.
The course emphasizes the importance of sustainable development in factory design and utilizes digital solutions.

Materials

Lecture material

Koneenpiirustus 1 & 2, Pere A, Kirpe Oy, Helsinki, 2021. ISBN 978-952-67419-3-2 or newer.

Teaching methods

Lectures, information retrieval, and applied learning assignments. The learning assignments are mainly done individually. The different areas of pipeline design are introduced through lectures, video lectures, and problem-based learning assignments and projects.
Free-form anonymous feedback is collected in the middle of the course.

The implementation of the course is based on classroom-based contact teaching. About half of the contact course is theory lectures and half is learning practical drawing/modelling with CAD software. The subjects are familiarized with the written lecture material and the course book. During the study period, students do weekly learning assignments, which are evaluated as pass / needs improvement / fail.

The responsible and transparent use of AI applications is encouraged in this course. Instructions for using artificial intelligence can be found in chapter 3.2 (https://help.jamk.fi/raportointiohje/fi/3-kirjoittamisprosessi/tekoalyn-kaytto-oppimistehtavissa-ja-opinnaytetyossa/) of the thesis reporting instructions. If necessary, the instructions for each learning assignment contain more detailed information on how to use it in that particular task.

If the student has not been present at the first contact class, and does not return the first learning task with the group within the deadline, he/she will be removed from the course, and after that he/she can no longer participate in this implementation of the course.

There is an 80% attendance requirement for contact classes in the course.

Employer connections

If possible, a representative of the engineering office will give a visiting lecture during the study period

Exam schedules

No test

Completion alternatives

The assessment of previous competence is made on the first contact. It is possible to obtain exemptions, where applicable, on the basis of previous study

Student workload

Lectures 30 h
Learning assignments 70 h
Independent work 35 h
A total of 135 h

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student completes the assigned tasks and returns them according to the agreed schedule.

Qualifications

Technical drawing and CAD, process design, pressure equipment design and basic knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry

Further information

Continuous developmental feedback is given in the learning tasks.

All learning assignments are mandatory and must be completed successfully. You will pass the course by successfully completing all the learning assignments in time
