Objective
The object of the course
This course serves as a foundation and an introduction to the sport event management practices in the sport business management fundamentals module. This course builds gradually on the discipline of sport event management theories and how they are used in practice in the field of sport events. After completing this course, you will be able to identify the different aspects of sport event management process and understand the key concepts of sport events.
Course competencies
Business Competence: The student knows the central theories related to this specialisation option. The student possesses at least an advanced beginner’s skills in the practical tasks of the specialisation option.
Proactive Development: The student is able to work on projects in cooperation with actors of different fields.
Sustainable Development: The student is able to use information related to their field in finding, implementing and establishing sustainable solutions and operating models.
The learning objectives of the course
You will be able to critically review, analyze and understand information available from academic and professional business sources in sport event management field. You can comprehend the different stages of event organizing; the bid process, event planning, event hosting and post-event evaluation. You can understand the value creation process in sport events.
Content
The course covers sport event management key concepts, event planning stages, bidding process, the concept of event impacts and legacies, value creation process in sport events, challenges in organising major and mega sport events and event research aspects.

Case studies and journal articles related to the topics.
Teaching methods
The course follows combined face-to-face learning methods where students participate in lectures, workshops, and other study activities organized in classroom and virtual study environments. Furthermore, a student also completes separate individual and group assignments as supplementary independent studies utilizing virtual study platforms and materials.
Students' learning is assessed through Group work (30%), presentation (30%), exam (20%), and participation (20%).
Students must attain a compulsory attendance requirement of (80%) to pass the course.

You attempt to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant to sport event management. You show some but narrow skills in analyzing challenges and trends related to sport events. You are able to transmit to a limited extent your and your team’s ideas and findings in English. You show some but low-level skills in participating in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork. You are able to name some very basic sustainability issues.
Satisfactory 2
You have some ability in order to analyze and evaluate academic and business information related to sport events and event management. You are able to recognize challenges and trends related to sport events and you can ideate managerial implications, but the approach is not supported with argumentation. You are able to get your main message through when presenting your and your team’s ideas and findings in English. You show some skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
You are able to name some sustainability related problems related to sports events.

Good 3
You are able to evaluate relevant academic and business data and consider possible approaches and outcomes for sport events and event management. You show analytical skills and logical thinking with justifications related to sport event management and you discuss solutions for arising problems. You are able to create and present your and your team’s ideas and findings in English. You know how to contribute in a productive way in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork. You are able to identify sustainability related issues and to address some applications related to sport events.
Very Good 4
You are able to analyze business data with possible outcomes related to sport events and event management. You propose well justified solutions for business challenges related to sport events. You can work and communicate your and you’re your team’s ideas and findings professionally in English. You show self-critical skills in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and demonstrate teamwork skills. You are able to name major sustainability issues of sport events.

Excellent 5
You can propose well justified ideas,plans and solutions on principal level for sport events. You have management and problem-solving skills needed in sport event management. You present your and your team’s ideas in a convincing manner in English. You have assessed thoroughly your contribution in inter- and multicultural setting and possess teamworking skills. You are able to promote sustainability-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications in sport events.
