Objective
Purpose of the course
Data processing is one of the fundamental pillars in the IT industry. Data-driven decision-making is a factor that many companies leverage to improve their business. In the Data Processing and Reporting on Cloud Platforms course, you will explore and learn how to manage, analyze, manipulate, and visualize data using cloud services. The course covers how cloud platforms can assist in managing and leveraging data for various business needs.
Course competences
- Information System: Is familiar with typical information systems and services and understands the importance of security in utilizing services.
- Application development: Knows the technologies used in application development and recognizes the significance of different technologies and their relationships.
- Operating in a workplace: Utilises the opportunities offered by technology and digitalisation in their work.
- ICT Specialization: Is able to apply their knowledge and skills in a specific area of ICT, as well as analyze, evaluate, and develop operations in this area.
The learning objectives of the course
In the course, you will learn how data needs to be edited and processed to suitable formats, so that it can be used in business in useful ways. As you complete this course, you will have learned the possibilities of data processing (Extract, Transform, Load) and familiarised yourself with the tools to edit data into various formats needed by different systems or services. You will also learn to visualize the data for analytical purposes.
Content
The course covers, for example, the following topics: Data-Driven Organizations, Elements of Data, Design Principles and Patterns for Data Pipelines, Securing and Scaling the Data Pipeline, Ingesting and Preparing Data, Ingesting by Batch or by Stream, Storing and Organizing Data, Processing Big Data, Processing Data for ML, Analyzing and Visualizing Data and Automating the Data Pipeline.
Location and time
Main campus, Rajakatu 35. 11x3,5h lectures. Weeks 39-50.
Materials
Learning material and assignments written by the teacher and selected online sources. AWS Academy theoretical material and content, including videos and theoretical reading material from the course modules.
Teaching methods
Guided lessons and lectures in the classroom. Guided learning tasks with automatic feedback and classroom activities, as well as challenge tasks and a final project as homework. A learning diary is used. Knowledge tests are conducted at the end of each module based on the theory.
Exam schedules
Online exam at the end of the course.
International connections
Part of the teaching material is based on international collaboration with AWS Academy.
Completion alternatives
You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere, AWS Cloud Foundations course or AWS Solution Architect Associate certification) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing. See eRPL process for instructions about recognition of prior knowledge. Contact teacher via e-mail.
The recognition of prior learning is possible in three primary ways: accreditation (replacement or inclusion), recognition of informal learning and studification. More precise info: JAMK Degree Regulations, section 17.
Student workload
Approximately 135 hours.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
-You are able to install and configure a suitable cloud-based data processing environment.
-You can use the tools covered in the course.
-You are familiar with methods and tools related to data processing and can implement a data processing (ETL) process in the cloud.
-You have successfully completed the required tasks and exam for the course.
Further information
Self-assessment through a learning diary. Continuous feedback on assignments through automatic scoring, as well as continuous feedback on theory tests.
