You will get a wide perspective into the design requirements and implementation of production, and the impact of different production strategies on customer relationship management. You will gain understanding about financial management and learn to manage production from that perspective as well.
Competences: business knowledge, engineering practice, communication and team-working.
Learning outcome:
You understand the terminology of technical production and production economics and the capabilities of different production systems. You will know the key concepts and theories related to production management.
Content
The course covers the following main themes:
- Production control and timing
- Item control and apply
- Material management in production network
- Productivity thinking and modern management methods
- Cost calculation of production and financial management of production company
Materials
Chapman S. The Fundamentals of Production Planning and Control, Uusi-Rauva ym. Teollisuustalous, Case material, Excel-data and T-forms + lecture material.
Teaching methods
The implementation of the course is divided into two parts: to support the competence, key concepts and phenomena related to production management are reviewed. The central entity is an extensive exercise related to the course, in which the key functions of a production company are planned in accordance with a separate assignment, including economic management related to its launch and production management, in addition to technical choices and decisions.
The course does not have a separate traditional exam. The actual evaluation is based on the project report and the workload evaluation form returned by the students at the end of the study period, which has both a self-evaluation field and general evaluation criteria listed to support the evaluation.
Exam schedules
Erillistä yksilötenttiä ei tässä opintojaksossa ole. Oppiminen ja osaaminen arvioidaan harjoitustöiden avulla.
International connections
The study case aims for the international market.
Completion alternatives
Opintojakson toteutus perustuu työryhmämuotoisesti tehtäviin harjoitustöihin. Muulla tavoin toteutettuna opintojakson tuottama osaaminen todennäköisesti jäisi vaillinaiseksi.
Student workload
Opintojakson laskennallinen kuormitus on 135h.

Further information
Oppimisen arviointi on osaamistavoitteisiin pohjautuvaa, laadullista, kriteeriperusteista ja siinä opiskelijan itsearvioinnilla ryhmän arvion ohella on tärkeä rooli.
