Objective

Purpose of the course:
The knowledge and skills in this course will enable you to produce an ARK data model and construction drawings using computer-aided design.

Course competencies:
Knowledge and understanding of: applicable design techniques and methods and their limitations in relation to house design.
Communication and teamwork: ability to communicate designs effectively about information, ideas, problems and solutions within an engineering community.
Interdisciplinary skills: Ability to keep abreast of developments in drawing and modelling software.
Practical application of technology: Practical skills to implement civil engineering designs.

Course objectives:
You will be able to produce construction drawings using computer-aided design (e.g. CAD, and BIM), be familiar with drawing notations and be able to use modelling and drawing software to produce data models and building and construction plans for civil engineering. These are also the basic tasks of the course.

Content

1 cr: CAD basics, print settings
2 cr: Basics of BIM
2 cr: Structural design
Exercises and learning exercises, construction drawings, structural drawings.

Location and time

Contact lessons according to Time Table on the Main Campus.
Exercises in the IT-Laboratory.

Materials

- Material distributed through the online platform during the course
- Lecture notes
- Software manufacturers' instructions

Teaching methods

The course uses the following teaching methods:
- Lectures / Online materials,
- Exercises / Learning tasks,

The virtual component 2,5 credits includes:
- Interactive videos
- Online tests

Exam schedules

Timing of Exams and re-Exams will be agreed on the first contact lesson of the course.
The course entrance task must be taken within three ( 3 ) weeks of the course start date in order to maintain the right to study.

Completion alternatives

Certification or accreditation is possible as described in the Jamkin Peppi guidelines.

Student workload

One credit point means an average of 27 hours of work. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the way the course is implemented.
-------------------
In this study period, time use and workload is distributed as follows:
Total load: 81 + 54 = 135 h
Beginning tasks in both parts: 3 + 3 = 6 h
Contact lectures: 2 h/week (total 54 h)
Interactive video lectures: 20 h
Homework that supports learning: 10 h
Exercise/project work to be done during the course: 40 h
Assessment of own competence/peer assessment: 2 + 2 = 4 h
Allocate approx. 3 - 4 hrs/week of your own time for this course.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1): The student knows and recognises the topics described in the learning outcomes of the course and is able to perform the tasks according to the learning outcomes of the course: CAD drawing and printing, creating and printing an information model, construction and structural drawings according to the drawing guidelines. The student will be able to demonstrate his/her competence by carrying out tasks in accordance with the objectives.
Satisfactory (2): The student knows, identifies and understands the basic competences described in the objectives of the course. The student can demonstrate competence by systematically describing the topics covered in the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course and is able to demonstrate his/her knowledge in a clear and understandable way. The student is able to articulate the learning in a clear and concise manner and to apply it to practical tasks.
Excellent (4). The student is able to describe the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between alternatives.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course with excellent results. In addition, the student is able to examine the topics of the course theoretically and apply them critically in practice. Competence is demonstrated in a coherent and multidimensional manner.
