Autumn semester 2 hours/week

Objective

Purpose of the course:
The knowledge and skills in this course will enable you to determine the internal forces acting on structures. In addition, you will learn about statically indeterminate structures. This knowledge and skills are needed to design structures.

Course competences:
Knowledge and understanding of basic mathematics and science at the level necessary to achieve other learning objectives.

Course objective:
After completing this course, you will be able to determine the stresses in statically determinate structures and illustrate this with stress surface diagrams and determine the extreme values of the stresses. You will also be able to use tables to determine the stresses of structures. The course will also introduce you to the use of tables to determine the quantities of statically indeterminate structures. These are also the basic tasks of the course.

Content

Determination of stresses, stress surface patterns, statically indeterminate structures.
1 cr Beam stresses basic case
1 cr Beam and frame stresses
1 cr Graphical method and use of tables

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Intermediate (1): The student knows and recognises the issues described in the objectives of the course and is able to perform the tasks described in the objectives of the course: determining the stresses of a plane element structure: perimeter, column, beam. The student can demonstrate his/her competence by performing tasks according to the objectives.

Satisfactory (2): The student knows, identifies and understands the issues described in the unit objectives. The student can demonstrate competence by describing the topics covered in the course in a systematic way.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course and is able to demonstrate his/her knowledge in a clear and understandable way. The student is able to articulate the learning in a clear and concise manner and to apply it to practical tasks.

Excellent (4). The student is able to describe the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between alternatives.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course with excellent results. In addition, the student is able to examine the topics of the course theoretically and apply them critically in practice. Competence is demonstrated in a coherent and multidimensional manner.

Qualifications
