Objective
This course will introduce you to process and materials engineering, which are essential components of industrial production processes and engineering sciences in general. You will learn about mechanical, chemical, and thermal unit processes, as well as mass transfer processes. You will gain an understanding of how processes are composed of these different unit processes and delve into the specifics of an industrial process. Additionally, you will acquire knowledge about the properties of different materials and their suitability for various applications.
MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPETENCE
You are able to comprehensively understand processes by combining various unit processes. During the course, you will become acquainted with managing the properties of different materials and their suitability for various applications. You will also have a better understanding of the limitations that processes impose from a materials perspective and, conversely, the opportunities that different materials offer within processes.
APPLICATION OF ENGINEERING IN PRACTICE
You will learn the principles of industrial applications and be better equipped to identify practical problems and challenges in various production processes. You will comprehend the differences between different process solutions, and your understanding of various unit processes will also enable you to identify opportunities for process optimization.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
You comprehend the fundamental concepts of process engineering and can explain the roles of various unit processes in industrial production processes. You have a command of the basic principles of mechanical unit operations, such as mixing, separation, and various mechanical handling processes. You recognize the principles of heat transfer and mass transfer and comprehend their significance in different processes. You become acquainted with the fundamentals of chemical unit processes and can analyze them in industrial applications. You can identify various materials, their properties, and their suitability for different processes. Additionally, you understand the fundamentals of wear and the significance of material selection for long-term use.
