Objective
The course aims for familiarisation with psychosocial crisis work.

Intended learning outcomes:
You understand the concept of a crisis and the significance of psychosocial support and know how to deal with different change and crisis situations of a client.
Content
The core content of the course comprises the concept of a crisis, the phases of a crisis, key crisis work services and supporting clients in different situations of change and crisis.

Teaching methods
The teaching and learning methods used in the course are webinars, classroom-based crisis work exercises and, alternatively, either a written learning assignment done independently or working as a volunteer crisis worker in Sekasin chat. Training for volunteer work is included in the course.
The webinars are interactive learning situations and you will be prepared for them according to the instructions given in advance. A working camera, headphones and microphone are required to participate in webinars.

The course is a collaboration with both the Kriisikeskus Mobile and the Sekasin chat.
Exam schedules
The course is assessed by a written learning assignment (approved-completed-failed) or by working as an online crisis worker in the Sekasin chat (pass-fail).
Completion alternatives
You can apply for admission with previous equivalent higher education studies (content/objectives/extent), or with at least one year (12 months) of work experience in psychosocial crisis work that is relevant to the course content and objectives. Please discuss your competences with your tutor and, if necessary, submit an e-application at least two weeks before the start of the course.
During the course, you can choose to work as an volunteer online crisis worker in the Sekasin chat or do a written learning assignment.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
You know how to describe the concept of a crisis and the stages of crisis work. You know how to describe the significance of psychosocial support and how to deal with different change and crisis situations of a client. You are able to name key psychosocial crisis work services.
Qualifications
You are able to describe the social welfare and healthcare service system and name acts that govern it. You are able to describe the ethical principles of your field and the values that guide your work. You are able to describe what professionalism means in interaction and guidance work and what a person’s functional capacity means. You are able to describe the concept of mental health. You are able to describe key services for supporting mental health and the legislation governing these services.
