Objective
Purpose of the course
After completing the course, you will know the importance of organic production in Finland and the EU. You know the terms of Finnish organic animal production.
Competences of the course
Agricultural competence;
-know the welfare factors taking into account the production of farm animals and know the role of animal production in the food chain
Natural science and environmental competence:
-identify the key environmental, water and climate impacts of your own operations, know how to measure them and manage ways to reduce the impacts
-know how to apply and utilise researched environmental information and the opportunities of the circular economy in your own operations
Sustainable development:
-you will be able to use knowledge related to your field to find, implement and establish sustainable solutions and operating models
-you will understand sustainability challenges, their interdependencies and the many aspects of issues and problems.
Learning objective of the course
You can find up-to-date information on the conditions of organic production. You can assess the suitability of animal feeding and conditions for organic production.

Teaching methods
This is a multimode implementation, so the emphasis is on independent study. In the learning environment, students study using video lectures, videos and written material. The student receives feedback on each completed assignment.
Exam schedules
No course exam. The course is completed by doing assignments.
Completion alternatives
The course or part of it can be completed on the basis of previous competence or by studying in working life.
Student workload
2 credits correspond to approximately 54 hours of student work.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student knows the requirements of organic production and is able to apply them. Students are able to evaluate the possibilities of their own farm or model farm in organic production based on the requirements of organic production.
Qualifications
Knowledge of production conditions of farm animals.
