Objective

The students have the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, and they are able to apply this knowledge in engineering applications.

EA-KN EUR-ACE Knowledge and understanding: Students understand the principles of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.

EA-IV EUR-ACE Investigations: Students are able to conduct experiments in the laboratory and draw conclusions based on the measurements.

Content

Fluid mechanics, thermal expansion, ideal gas, moisture, thermal energy, heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation, basics of thermodynamics and heat engines.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the topics of the course, and he is able to apply them innovatively in challenging engineering applications.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential knowledge of the course, and he is able to apply his skills to usual engineering problems.

Good (3): The student masters the basic principles of the course, and he is able to solve basic engineering problems.

Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology of course, but he has some problems with applying the knowledge. He can nevertheless solve simple engineering problems.

Adequate (1): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology of the course, but he has significant problems with applications.

Qualifications

Handling powers and roots, reducing expressions, application of right and oblique triangle trigonometry, vector calculation, solving first and second degree polynomial equations and systems of equations.
