Pass/Fail
Objective
The students know the main teaching methods and materials in their own instrument and are capable of contributing to their development and adaptation. They are familiar with teaching and with a teacher's work. They have been drilled in learning guidance and evaluation use in practical teaching work, and are capable of working as members in co-operative work. They evaluate their own abilities and those of their peers in a constructive and realistic manner, and use portfolio as a tool in learning and evaluation.
Content
Teaching goals in the instrument's elemental level, teaching materials and methods. Command of the typical teaching situation. Guidance and evaluation of diverse students.
Materials
The repertoire of the respective instruments,and the ergonomic principles for each, Basic art teaching and general teaching planning principles, Intrumental requirements of the Finnish music institutes' levels and evaluation criteria, 1, 2, 3 and music school level.
Completion alternatives
Participation in lessons and activities, completion of assignments, portfolio work.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The students participate actively in lesson planning and following. They complete the course's required lesson auditing and assignments. The students have deepened their understanding of the challenges in instrumental teaching,its goals and work methods. They are able to guide students long term. They bring out in an organic manner the main features of their own instrumental teaching and that of their sources as well as the skill they possess at the moment.
Qualifications
The students are familiar with the basics of music education and understand the diverse conceptions connected with music learning. They understand the significance of study plans as foundantions for teaching. They are initially acquainted with the teaching methods and materials of their own instrument and are capable of contributing to their development and adaptation. They have the basic skills necessary in teaching and in a teacher's work. They are acquainted with teaching guidance and evaluation in practical teaching work and have been drilled therein in the work milieu. They are capable of evaluating their own abilities and those of their peers, and command the use of portfolio as a tool for evaluation and learning.
Further information
The course is implemented in tight connection with the course KMZPW102. Instrument pedagogic 2nd course typically comprises work with two students of different levels during a year (mainly elemental students at an elemental level, and possibly more advanced ones chosen by the student practicers themselves).
