Objective

The student is able to implement research or development project, which is useful for working life, is field-specific or develops professional knowledge and career. He/she is able to do the thesis independently, responsibly and in cooperation with stakeholders. The student knows how to process and critically evaluate information, theories, concepts, methods and principles from his/her own field. He/she knows how to report the results of his/her work, evaluate them and bring forth suggestions for development in an appropriate manner in writing, orally and visually. The student knows how to communicate his/her work at different stages clearly, rationally and graphically to a peer and other audiences. He/she is able to evaluate and develop his/her own knowledge and readiness for continuous learning.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The course is evaluated as Pass (S)/Fail (0).
Pass (S)
The student:
• implements working life, field-specific or professional knowledge from a useful research & development project independently, responsibly and in cooperation with others
• knows how to process and critically evaluate information, theories, concepts, methods and principles from his/her own field
• knows how to report the results of his/her work, evaluate them and bring forth suggestions for development in an appropriate manner in writing, orally and visually
• knows how to communicate his/her work at different stages clearly, rationally and graphically to a peer and other audiences
• is able to evaluate and develop his/her own knowledge and readiness for continuous learning

The thesis is evaluated summatively following its completion and presentation, on a five-point scale according to thesis-specific criteria: 5 (Excellent), 4 (Very good), 3 (Good), 2 (Satisfactory) and 1 (Adequate). The evaluation criteria for the thesis are published on the jamk.fi/en Web site.

Assessment methods are based on learning objectives. Assessment is qualitative, based on a criteria and the student's self-assessment plays an important role in it.

The learning outcomes of individual courses are assessed in relation to the objectives of the course concerned. Unless otherwise defined in the curriculum, a course accepted as completed is assessed either on the following five-step scale: 5 (Excellent), 4 (Very Good), 3 (Good), 2 (Satisfactory), 1 (Sufficient) or it is graded as Pass/Fail, marked as “S (Pass)” and “0 (Fail)”.
If the student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course, the grade is 0 (Fail).

Qualifications

Sufficient familiarity with one's own professional field and research and development methods. The student has successfully compiled an approved thesis plan and theoretical framework.
