Objective
The purpose is that after completing the course, you will know the basics of safe medicine therapy. You understand the responsibility of your own professional role in medicine therapy.
Content
Key legislation, guidelines and supervision of medicine therapy in Finland
Basic concepts of medicine therapy
Medication groups
Pharmaceutical forms and methods of administration
Handling medication
Stages of the drug in the body (pharmacokinetics) and the most common side effects and interactions
Safe drug treatment implementation, including digital solutions
Monitoring and documentation of medicine therapy
Medicine therapy guidance
Risk medication and control of risks
Use of databases

Teaching methods
Online pedagogy is used as teaching method. Studying takes place independently in Moodle. There will be an introductory webinal on Zoom at the beginning of the course. There we will go through issues related to completing the course. In Moodle you can find the theory section and related midterm assignments/exams and a final exam at the end of the course. There is also a discussion platform in Moodle where students can have a discussion about the topic. You can also ask questions from the teacher.
Exam schedules
The final exam is taken by everyone after they have passed all the previous sections. You can try to pass the final exam three times. Time between exam attemps is 72 hours. The first attempt at the final exam is therefore good to have approximately a week before the end of the course (19th May 2023).
Student workload
2 credits = 54 hours. One credit corresponds to 27 hours of work. The course progresses by doing subject areas in order. After every subject area there is a midterm or task and at the begining of the course there will be the final exam. Subject areas are: legislation, guidance and supervision in Finland, basics of medicine therapy, pharmacokinetics and side efffects and interactions, implementation of safe medicine therapy, monitoring the effects of medicine therapy, guidance of medicine therapy, risk medication and risk management and use of medication databases.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass: The student knows the basics of safe medicine therapy and understand his/her role in the implementation of safe medicine therapy. Student get to know the materials of the Moodle learning platform, pass the midterms and the final exam.
Fail: Student's performance does not meet the criteria for passing
