Objective
You have to master Material selection process, if you are making preselection as a part of design process.
You will learn material selection process, its' steps and you will be able to make preselection for different components and products.and you understand its' significance as a part of design process. You learn to consider the use, environment, production and other requirements of the product in material selection process.
Knowledge and understanding:
You understand material selection to be part of design process, which is needed for reaching learning outcomes. You have knowledge and understanding of suitable selection methods and tools related for them.
Investigations and information retrieval:
You are able to make searches inf literature and benefit and use patent databases and other appropriate sources of information.
Multidisciplinary competences:
You recognize the effect of material selection to environmental aspects and economic implications. You are able to follow science and technology development in material technology.

Material selection as part of product design: strategy, factors affecting strategy and material characterization.
Material selection process: process steps, factors affecting selection and information retrieval supporting selection process.
