Objective

The student can utilize machine components in designing machines and their structures. The student can design basic connections of machine components.

EA-EN Engineering analysis: The students are able to apply their knowledge and understanding to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems in dimensioning and selection of machine components using established methods. They are able to apply their knowledge and understanding to analyse machine components. The students are able to select and apply relevant analytic and modelling methods in dimensioning and selection of machine components.

EA-ER Engineering practice: The students are able to combine theory and practice in dimensioning and selection of machine components.

TKNPE Basics of mechanical engineering: The students can use mathematics and physics in dimensioning of machine components. The students are more familiar with the most common components and machine elements as well as their connections used in mechanical engineering.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills of the course and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to demanding selection and dimensioning tasks of machine components.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to selection and dimensioning tasks of machine components.

Good (3): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills covered by the course and can apply this knowledge to machine component design:
- can design and dimension bolted and welded joints
- can design and dimension shafts and their connections
- is familiar with different types of gear transmissions and can dimension spur gear pairs.

Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but can only satisfactorily apply them to selection and dimensioning tasks of machine elements.

Adequate (1): The student identifies the basic knowledge and terminology but can only sufficiently apply them to simple selection and dimensioning tasks of machine elements.

Qualifications

The students have the basic knowledge of the strength of materials and they are able to calculate static structures. The students can form a mechanical model of a structure and they can solve the stresses, tensions and deformations. The students can perceive the cases which require more precise and profound strength inspection.
The students know the most common machine elements and their connections.
