Objective

You will gain knowledge and understanding of the role of the physiotherapist in sport medicine from an evidence informed perspective.
You understand and use research evidence to make informed decisions in order to maximize and optimize client well-being and manage rehabilitation process. You are able to track down the best evidence and can critically appraise the evidence for its validity, impact and applicability.

Content

- Understand the scope of practice of the physiotherapist in sports and exercise medicine

- Introduction to the current literature related to the common models in clinical practice, injury prevention and management in sports medicine.
- Evidence-based sport injury diagnosis and early injury management and

- Understand the theories and implementation of evidence-informed at different stages in the rehabilitation of specific sports injuries: from the acute phase to return-to-play.

- Understand importance of load monitoring and optimal loading during the recovery period

- Knowledge of the tools available for assessing progression and effectiveness of rehabilitation for different sports injuries
- Comprehend the role of the physiotherapist in the promotion of fair play and anti-doping practice

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

You will show the appropriate approach to finding and extracting suitable scientific evidence and guidelines to answer specific questions within sports physiotherapy. You will be able to apply the suitable research study designs to different roles of a physiotherapist working with athletes. You will demonstrate the ability to critique scientific literature and associate the finding within clinical practice. You will demonstrate appropriate communication and linguistic skills required in different situations and audiences as a physiotherapist. You will show flexibility in your communication skills through reporting on and presenting your course assignments using foreign language sources. In self-assessment, You can demonstrate your capacity for lifelong learning and continuous development of evidence-based practice skills in sports physiotherapy.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You will show the appropriate systematic approach to finding and extracting most of suitable scientific evidence and guidelines while excluding inappropriate literature to answer specific questions within sports physiotherapy. You will be able to apply the suitable research study designs to different roles of a physiotherapist working with athletes and show good integration of these with clinical skills and athletes’ expectations. You will demonstrate the good ability to critique scientific literature and associate the finding within clinical practice. You will demonstrate good communication and linguistic skills required in different situations and audiences as a physiotherapist. You will show flexibility in your communication skills through reporting on and presenting your course assignments using foreign language sources. In self-assessment, You can demonstrate a good capacity for lifelong learning and continuous development of evidence-based practice skills in sports physiotherapy.

You will show a comprehensive systematic approach to finding and extracting the suitable scientific evidence and guidelines from different sources while excluding inappropriate literature to answer specific questions within sports physiotherapy. You will be able to apply the suitable research study designs to different roles of a physiotherapist working with athletes and show excellent integration of these with clinical skills and athletes’ expectations. You will demonstrate a very strong ability to critique scientific literature and associate the finding within clinical practice. You will demonstrate excellent communication and linguistic skills required in different situations and audiences as a physiotherapist. You will show flexibility in your communication skills through reporting on and presenting your course assignments using foreign language sources and appropriate styles. In self-assessment, You can demonstrate an excellent capacity for lifelong learning and continuous development of evidence-based practice skills in sports physiotherapy.
