Objective

The academic track project aims to develop your research skills by undertaking a real-life research project in connection with your academic track, in which you collect and analyze data and report research results, either individually or in groups. Your academic track teacher automatically becomes the tutor teacher of your academic track project.

The competences to develop are proactive development, learning to learn, and ethics.

Proactive development:
You can apply existing knowledge and utilize relevant research methods including digital technology in development projects. You can interpret new evidence in the light of the existing body of knowledge, make comparisons, and draw inferences.

Learning to learn:
You learn to formulate relevant questions and seek information. You can review relevant theoretical and empirical literature to comprehend diverse perspectives, understand new developments in your field of study, and make informed decisions based thereon. You can acquire the researcher’s mindset to problematize, explore, and understand real-life phenomena.

Ethics:
You understand and apply the well-established principles of responsible conduct in research.

Content

Contents of projects are determined according to the contents of your selected academic track.

Qualifications

This is only for second-year students in the IB bachelor's degree programme, who are also enrolled in an academic track of the IB bachelor's degree programme.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1):
You can review academic literature but fail to apply existing knowledge in a research project. You are aware of relevant research methods including digital technology in development projects. You understand the well-established principles of responsible conduct in research.
Satisfactory (2):
You can review academic literature in a relatively systematic manner and attempt to apply existing knowledge in a research project. You attempt to utilize relevant research methods including digital technology in development projects. You understand and attempt to apply the well-established principles of responsible conduct in research.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3):
You can review academic literature in a systematic manner and apply existing knowledge in a research project. You utilize relevant research methods including digital technology in development projects. You understand and apply the well-established principles of responsible conduct in research.
Very good (4):
You can review academic literature in a systematic manner and apply existing knowledge insightfully in a research project. You utilize relevant research methods insightfully including digital technology in development projects. You understand and apply insightfully the well-established principles of responsible conduct in research.

To be assigned by academic track lecturers based on the nature of the academic track projects.

There is no single lecturer in charge. Every track lecturer is responsible for the academic track projects of their academic track students.
