Objective

The aim of the course is to outline the basics of safe medication management and digital solutions for the implementation of medication management in social, health and rehabilitation care. You will also learn how to administer emergency first aid.

Competence in social client work (Bachelor of Social Services)
Assessment of rehabilitation needs and possibilities (Rehabilitation Counsellor)

Learning outcomes:

You understand the basics of safe medical management and are able to implement medical management in a client-safe manner. You understand the importance and effects of medical management in people's everyday life. You will understand the importance and significance of medicine treatment in the context of human health and well-being, and the role of evidence-based knowledge in the planning, implementation and evaluation of medical treatment. Recognise your own responsibilities in providing guidance and support for self-care. You will master first aid skills in emergency assistance.

Content

The main content of the course is the key legislation, guidelines and supervision of medical therapy in Finland: basic concepts of medicine therapy, pharmaceutical forms and administration methods, stages of the medicine in the body, implementation of safe medicine therapy, monitoring of medicine therapy, use of medicine databases, logical and mathematical determination of doses, dosage of liquid and solid medicines, quantities, prefixes and units of medicines and their variations. The course also covers emergency first aid skills.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You can describe the regulations on which medical treatment is based. You can explain how to provide medication in a client-safe way and what effects medication has on the client's daily life and ability to function. You can describe the steps in the medication management process and your own responsibilities in medication management. You will be able to name the different forms of medicines and the ways in which they are administered. You will be able to search and use information from reliable databases on medication management. Be able to describe the stages of drugs in the body. Be able to administer emergency first aid.
