Purpose of the course:
In the course, you will learn to apply the theory of pediatric and adolescent nursing in practice.

You know how to consider the importance of patient safety in relation to the special features of pediatric and adolescent nursing.
You know how to take into account the developmental stages of children and adolescents in nursing care.
You implement drug and fluid therapy for children and adolescents, and know how to vaccinate safely under supervision.
You recognize the individual needs of the child and other family members, taking into account children's rights, and you know how to promote the well-being of families.
You use digital methods in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
You know how to guide the family in the different stages of the care process in cooperation with your mentor.
You apply evidence-based information under guidance when carrying out nursing care, taking into account the principles of equality and equality.

Content

Pediatric and adolescent nursing is practiced in healthcare and child protection units where clients are children under 18 years of age.

Qualifications

A student masters the contents of anatomy and physiology, as well as the areas of pharmacology and medicine, which are related to the mentioned nursing studies.
A student masters the methods of health promotion, internal medicine nursing, and mental health, addiction and crisis nursing.
A student knows the basics of evidence-based decision-making.
A student masters the basics of maternity and women's care.
A student masters the basics of pediatric and adolescent nursing.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Passed:

You know how to take into account the child's developmental stages and their effects on nursing care.
You identify the individual needs of the child and the family, taking into account children's rights, and you understand the importance of well-being for the family.
You know how to guide the family, working in cooperation with your mentor.
You understand the importance of patient safety in relation to the special features of pediatric nursing.
You know how to administer children's drug and fluid therapy and you know how to vaccinate safely under supervision.
You know how to use digital methods in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
You can apply evidence-based information under guidance when carrying out nursing care, taking into account the principles of equality and equality.
