Objective

You know the objectives of climate and energy policy and can analyze their impacts on energy systems and markets. You understand the effects of the energy transition and the green transition on current and future energy systems and can apply your knowledge to develop a sustainable energy system.

Knowledge and understanding
You understand the impact of climate objectives on energy systems and their development needs, as well as the changing energy markets. You also understand the effects of energy system changes on society, technical systems and business.

Engineering application in practice
You identify future energy solutions and can apply them to existing systems.

Multidisciplinary competence
You learn to follow the development of science and technology in your own field.

Content

Climate and energy policy and future objectives,
EU policy and objectives, with a focus on Finland’s objectives, Current and new future energy technologies and solutions, Development of industrial energy efficiency,
Developing bidirectional energy networks, energy production and markets,
Management and development of the national electricity grid.

Qualifications

You have basic knowledge of climate and energy policy and objectives. You are familiar with the basic principles and solutions of energy production and the Finnish energy system

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The assessment consists of an exam and learning assignments. You will write a lecture diary during the course, which accounts for 50% of the overall assessment.

Adequate (1): You understand the basics and the key terminology, but you have deficiencies in grasping the main points. Your evaluation of your own learning development is limited.

Satisfactory (2): You understand the basics and the key terminology as well as some of the basic principles of developing energy solutions. Your evaluation of your own learning development is limited.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You understand the basics and the key terminology and can apply new and developing solutions to energy systems. You can also assess your own competence development well.

Excellent (4): You master the key aspects well and can apply new solutions to a wide range of energy system development targets. You can also assess your own competence development well.
