Objective

Purpose of the course:
The knowledge and skills in this module will enable you to understand the needs and principles of defining the content of a data model in terms of nomenclature standardisation, to produce a data model and to be able to use the model in the design and implementation of a construction project.

Course competences:
Knowledge and understanding: the ability to communicate effectively about information, ideas, problems and solutions within the engineering community.
Communication and teamwork: the ability to work effectively with engineers and other professional groups.
Interdisciplinary skills: ability to keep abreast of scientific and technological developments.
Practical application of technology: Practical skills to implement complex engineering designs.
Research and information retrieval: Ability to conduct literature searches and to make critical use of scientific databases and other appropriate information sources; ability to perform simulations and analyses for detailed study and research of engineering problems.

Course objective:
Upon completion of the course, you will be prepared to work in a building construction project using a data model. You will understand the principles of information modelling in the construction process and know the basic use of the software used in the course. You will understand the roles and responsibilities of the people involved in the information modelling project and the most common practices. You will be able to take into account the constraints and practices required by information modelling requirements. You will be able to use the features of the software used in the course to perform industry-specific tasks.
These are also the basic tasks of the course.

Content

Building Information Modelling (BIM); information modelling requirements in use.
Creating, verifying and using the information model for industry-specific tasks.

Qualifications

Competences of the course CAD - Fundamentals of Computer Aided Design: creating a computer model and nomenclature of building components.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Intermediate (1): The student knows and recognises the issues described in the course objectives and is able to perform the tasks described in the course objectives: information modelling (BIM); commonly used information model requirements. BIM is a common knowledge in the field of information modeling. Students can demonstrate their competence by completing tasks in accordance with the objectives.

Satisfactory (2): The student will know, identify and understand the issues described in the learning objectives of the course. The student can demonstrate competence by describing the topics covered in the course in a systematic way.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course and is able to demonstrate his/her knowledge in a clear and understandable way. The student is able to articulate the learning in a clear and concise manner and to apply it to practical tasks.

Excellent (4). The student is able to describe the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between alternatives.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): the student has achieved the learning objectives of the course with excellent results. In addition, the student is able to examine the topics of the course theoretically and apply them critically in practice. Competence is demonstrated in a coherent and multidimensional manner.
