Objective

EUR-ACE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING You understand the tasks and significance of building services engineering from the perspectives of energy efficiency and healthy indoor conditions. You know the objectives set for indoor conditions in regulations and recommendations. You know the main building services equipment, systems and processes and understand their interrelationships. You understand the operating principles of the most common heating, heat distribution, ventilation, cooling and heat recovery solutions. You know the measurement technology used in building services engineering and the most common control strategies. You can read the most common building services documents and diagrams.

EUR-ACE ENGINEERING APPLICATION TO PRACTICE You are familiar with the technology, terminology and documentation used in building automation. You know the most common systems, architectures, data transfer buses and integration solutions used in building automation. You can design and implement small-scale building automation applications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1): You recognize the basic tasks of building services engineering and building automation. You know what kind of equipment and processes are included in building services engineering. You are familiar with the technological solutions used in building automation at a general level. You know the terminology and documentation of the field at a general level. You know the objectives set for indoor conditions in regulations and recommendations. You identify the typical risks related to building services engineering and building automation for a healthy building.

Satisfactory (2): You know the key tasks of building services engineering and building automation and their significance for the building’s energy efficiency and indoor conditions. You identify the main building services equipment, systems and processes. You know how building services equipment can be controlled and monitored by building automation. You have an idea of the operating principles of the systems, but understanding the whole is challenging.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3: You know the main building services equipment, systems and processes and can interpret the diagrams related to them. You can prepare basic documents and diagrams describing the operation of building automation. You know the key effects of building services engineering and building automation on energy efficiency and indoor conditions. You know the main electrical building services systems.

Excellent 4: You understand the impact of building services engineering and building automation on indoor conditions and energy efficiency. You understand the interrelationships of the main building services processes and the most common control strategies. You understand the impact of electrical building services systems on safety and energy efficiency. You master the key bus technologies used in building automation systems.

Excellent (5): You understand the interrelationships of building services systems and processes. You are able to analyze the operation of systems from both the building automation and the building services process perspectives. You understand the operating principle of the most common building services control methods and you have the ability to apply them in building automation systems. You demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of building services engineering and building automation.
