Objective
You will learn the most important and commonly occurring aspects of the Finnish language structure. You can communicate in familiar everyday life situations, also in nursing field. You will learn the typical features of the Finnish communication culture and self-study methods.
You manage with assistance in Finnish in the most important communica-tion situations, also in the field of nursing. You can understandably and simply describe your background, home and living. You can manage to in-struct the patient and communicate in basic care treatment but needs help and repetition. You can partly understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, and free time. You can produce a simple short written instruction with help.
Content
You will learn:
• to understand and produce Finnish language expressions in every-day, familiar situations, for example, describing your living situation and background.
You will study:
• instructing patients and participating in common communication situations in the healthcare field in Finnish
• describing your home country and discussing it
• language learning strategies
• active language learning also outside the classroom
• specific characteristics of Finnish communication culture.

Successfully completed Finnish 2 for Nursing at Jamk or CEFR level A1.3. (https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/sites/default/files/cefr-en.pdf)
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
You manage with assistance in Finnish in the most important communication situations, also in the field of nursing. You describe, in simple terms, things related to your background, home and living arrangements. You manage to instruct the patient and communicate in basic, familiar nursing situations. When necessary, you can use coping strategies in the context of nursing. You mostly understand the main points of Finnish speech regarding familiar and typical matters regularly encountered at work, school, and free time. You will need repetition and speech slowing down. You write simple care instruction.

Teaching methods
The degree program offers the textbook 'Hoidetaan suomeksi'.
The course includes weekly lectures, as well as independent study and homework.
The language of instructions is English/Finnish.
At the end of the course, there will be a written and oral exam.
