Objective

In the Digital Photography & Video Production course you will learn how to create high quality digital photographs and videos with a DSLR-camera. You will understand how to apply photo- and videography techniques in different situations, how to organize photo- and video shoots, and how to work on a photo/video set.

Business competence: The student understands the meaning of contracts, offers, licenses and copyrights in his or her own work.

The learning objectives of the course:
After completing the course you will understand how a DSLR-camera works. You will be able to produce technically and aesthetically valid digital photographs and videos as well as use necessary editing softwares. You will also understand the digital photo-and videography workflows.

Content

During the course you will learn about basic concepts related to digital photo- and videography, such as exposure, lighting, compositing, editing, and producing. You will learn how to control these features in practice with a DSLR-camera. Planning a photoshoot and creating a script for video production are also covered. You will have access to software tools which are commonly used in professional productions.

Qualifications

Very basic understanding of image and video editing (comparable to the Basics for Digital Media course). If the student is unsure of their skills matching the course, they should contact the course tutor before enrollment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1): You understand the basic conventions of creating technically and aesthetically valid photographs and videos.

Satisfactory (2): You understand the basic conventions of creating technically and aesthetically valid photographs and videos and are able to apply the conventions in your own work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You understand the conventions of creating technically and aesthetically valid photographs and videos and are able to report how to improve your own work.

Very good (4): You understand the conventions of creating technically and aesthetically valid photographs and videos and are able to analyze and argue how your or someone else's work could be improved.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You understand the conventions of creating technically and aesthetically valid photographs and videos and are able to communicate and defend your own artistic vision, whether it follows the conventions or not.

This course is available to all students. It can be included in various study modules (like diplomas or any other life-long-learning modules).
