Objective

The aim of the course is obtaining basic knowledge of the theoretical foundation of multidisciplinary gerontological rehabilitation and practical rehabilitation services for older people from the individual’s and society’s perspective.

Intended learning outcome:

Rehabilitation planning: You learn to understand the basic premises of an older person's life course and agency as well as different generational perspectives in the initiation, implementation, completion and monitoring phases of individual rehabilitation processes.

Assessment of needs and possibilities for rehabilitation: You are able to put together appropriate service packages together with older people, their families and the actors in their service networks based on individual rehabilitation needs.

You know how to guide and support an older rehabilitee in taking responsibility for their rehabilitation.

Operating in a workplace: You know how to monitor and assess the operation and development of service structures for older people and participate in developing the services for this age group.

Content

Key contents of the course comprise the multidisciplinary knowledge base of rehabilitation for older people, the service system and rehabilitation services as well as the special features of rehabilitation of older people, including agency, life course, continuity and activity, as well as guiding them in building up their functional capacity and agency.

Qualifications

You are able to describe the social welfare and health care service system and name acts that govern it. You are able to describe what the client's participation and agency in the service system mean and which values and principles guide the service system. You know how different guidance methods are used ethically and in a goal-oriented manner to promote functional capacity and participation in everyday operating environments.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You are able to describe the basic premises, concepts and service system of multidisciplinary gerontological rehabilitation of older people. You recognise the special features of older people's rehabilitation process. You recognise the different rehabilitation needs of older people and the significance of the rehabilitee's personal responsibility for rehabilitation. You know how to direct them to different rehabilitation services. You know how to operate in the rehabilitation process with other specialists.
