Objective

The purpose of the course is to increase your knowledge of working with families and supporting parenting.

Competence in social client work

Learning outcomes:

You understand the importance of your own human perception and values in client work. You understand the diversity of families and the individual needs of different family members and act sensitively in interaction situations.

You act professionally and dialogically in interaction situations and are able to reflect critically on your own actions. You will understand the potential of using mentalization theory in client work in the social field. You will identify and evaluate the risk and protective factors of well-being: you will understand the meanings of attachment relationships and early interaction, as well as cross-generational parenting. You apply a reflective and trauma-informed approach to work with children and families.

Content

The main content of the course is the deepening of mentalization theory and reflective work approach. In addition, the focus is on early interaction, attachment relationships, trauma-informed work approach, and cross-generational parenting.

Qualifications

You are familiar with the Finnish social and health care service system and child and family services. You know the ethical principles and values of your field and know how to act in accordance with them.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You are able to define the core concepts of the course (mentalization theory, attachment relationships, early interaction, trauma-informed work approach, over-generational parenting) and describe the meanings and principles of reflective work methods in social and health care client work.

You will identify the possibilities of reflective methods and describe your own professional interaction skills and activities to support the well-being of families, critically reflecting.
