Objective

You are familiar with teaching and the work of a music pedagogue. You can apply knowledge related to learning and curriculum work in your practical teaching work. You know the basics of your main instrument and the most important guidance and evaluation methods included in them, as well as the materials for the basic and advanced studies of basic art education and the materials of secondary music professional education, and you know how to apply these in your own work. You know how to plan and implement individual and group teaching situations, also as distance learning. You know how to use appropriate audio and video recorders in your teaching. You understand your students' individual learning processes and are able to apply your knowledge and skills in guiding the learning of different students in individual and group teaching situations. You can evaluate your own and others' pedagogical skills constructively and realistically. You understand the ethics of the teaching profession. You know how to produce learning material for an online learning environment.

Content

In the course, you deepen your knowledge of the basics and technic of your instrument, as well as ergonomics. You will familiarize yourself with key learning materials and guidance and assessment methods, the curricula and goals of advanced studies in basic art education and secondary professional music education, as well as the guidance and assessment of different learners. You will learn to plan, implement and manage typical individual and group teaching situations in compliance with the teacher's professional ethics and also online. You use appropriate audio and video recorders in your teaching. You produce learning material for the online learning environment. You monitor and peer-evaluate the teaching practice of other students, as well as monitor the teaching of teachers working in the profession.

You know how to plan and implement individual teaching situations, also teaching online. You understand your students' individual learning processes and are able to apply your knowledge and skills in guiding the learning of different students in individual teaching situations. You know how to evaluate your own and others' pedagogical skills constructively and realistically, and you understand the ethics of the teaching profession. You know how to use appropriate audio and video recorders in your teaching. You know how to produce learning material for an online learning environment and you are familiar with the digital learning games/applications available for your own instrument.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You know how to plan, implement and evaluate teaching lessons and your own students' skills independently, taking into account the individual learning processes of different learners. You have deepened your understanding of the challenges, goals and working methods of instrument teaching. You are able to guide different students in the long term in both individual and group situations, also online, and you present your own view of instrument teaching in a structured manner, based on sources and your teaching practice experience. You are able to evaluate your own actions in a teaching situation and bring out areas for improvement and strengths, and create a plan to strengthen your own areas for improvement. In your teaching, you demonstrate that you are able to apply professional work ethics. In the peer assessment, you demonstrate that you know how to give realistic and constructive feedback on the teaching work of other students. In your learning tasks, you demonstrate that you have mastered the basics of your instrument, technology and ergonomics, as well as the key materials for advanced studies in basic music education and secondary professional music education.
