Objectives

You are able to work responsibly as a musician. You are able to apply your knowledge and skills with variety of assignments and command good social interaction skills. You are aware of the challenges of continued professional growth.

Content

Planning, implementation and evaluation of diverse work tasks as a musician.

Time and location

You can do your practising anywhere in Finland and abroad.

Learning materials and recommended literature

In Musiikin opinnot moodle workstation you'll find guiding called Muusikon harjoittelun ohjeistus as well as necessary supplements: link to plan (suunnitelma), hours excel (tunnit excel) and report (raportti). You can fill these in english as well.

You will collect your material to this course for example by performing and doing gigs in different places and events. Besides of that you will have to remember to report your working hours, places you have been performing etc. to be able to get your credits later.

Teaching methods

You can collect credits of musicians' training by performing outside of your education in Jamk, recording, training on your own, training with ensemble/orchestra and/or preparing sheet music for different projects, productions and events. If you do studio work, for example record a song in a studio, or write music (original compositions, transcription, arranging voices/instruments), those can be part of this as well. Only musicians' training done during your study years at Jamk (including summer holidays) and of witch you otherwise don't receive credits can be accepted to musicians' training. Musician's training includes training with any instrument, not only your main instrument.

You will have to write down all the working hours in your Excel calculator and fill the report. Return all the necessary documents to the teacher responsible for musicians' training. Once you have returned all the necessary documents you will get credits. One credit needs 27 hours of work.

Please note that you don't have to fill the documents of school's opera, musical, playing in the rehearsal orchestra or singing in the school choir. Once the teacher responsible for musicians' training receaves information of participants and study credits from the teacher involved to choir/rehearsal orchestra/musical/opera, the credits will be added to you automatically.

Practical training and working life connections

You will do your practising in working life in different places and events.

Student workload

One credit needs 27 hour of work.

Content scheduling

It is recommended that you make notes of all your performings during your studies at JAMK. It is suggested that you don't report of your performings until your second year of your studies, because you will also have to check that you will have enough space for your pedagogy practising (Pedagogic Training) points too. Practical Training and Pedagogic Training will give you 30 credits in total, and this amount of points is the highest and the lowest amount possible and the amount you will need to graduate from JAMK.

Further information for students

Practical Training is a part of a bigger entirety, which includes Pedagogic Training. Total amount of credits in these two courses will be 30.
